Chris Leiter

Experienced IT Professional

My Background

I've been in the IT industry since 1993. While my professional career started from the ground up selling computers at a large retail chain in Omaha, NE, my interests in this industry go back to my High School days.

A good friend of mine, Ryan Hoagland, convinced me that this thing called "The Internet" would be the wave of the future.  It was based on the idea of virtual worlds, known as MU*s, as the social environment of the new millennium.  Since then, the text-based societies have mostly died off, in favor of instant messaging, graphical web pages, and commercial growth of the internet.

My career has been extensive, working with older mainframes such as the IBM System/36 and AS/400 systems, Windows Clients and Servers, Unix and Linux systems, and Cisco and 3Com networking products.

Current Skills

The current focus of my career is maintaining a Windows Active Directory environment, as well as managing the Layer-2 and Layer 3 infrastructure.  I was also recently employed as an instructor for a Microsoft CPLS, where I taught people how to use products like Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2004.

My Future

While I would like to someday get back to the training field, my short-term goals include learning a programming language, like Visual Basic.NET, or C#.NET.  I would also like to continue my training on Cisco products, with a short-term goal of obtaining the CCNP certification, and a long-term goal of earning the CCIE certification.

Most Recently:

I recently left Sagem Morpho to take a position with Hitachi Consulting.  I will be working on the Microsoft National Team, as part of the External Education Services group.

This is an exciting new opportunity for me, and I really look forward to it.
